Q & A with Danielle

> Q. What inspired you to be an esthetician?
I became a girly girl in high school & loved everything about it; getting your nails done, brow waxing, facials, who wouldn't?! I started going to college after high school to become an elementary art teacher, but school just wasn't my thing. After I had decided to move to Utah, I looked into beauty schools. I did not want to cut hair (me with scissors & hair was not a good idea) but I did want to help women feel more beautiful. That's when I found out about aesthetics & I've been doing it ever since!

> Q. How long have you been working your magic with skin?
for about 3 years now.

> Q. What are your top 3 favorite skincare products you use on your clients?
Image is my favorite skin care line! I love using the Hydrating Eye recovery Gel, Total Resurfacing Masque, & Sunscreen!

> Q. What is your favorite thing about being an esthetician?
As much as I love making my client feel comfortable & relaxed; I love waxing! Hair removal is an instant result. You had unwanted hair when you came in, than the hair is gone when you leave!

> Q. Favorite tool or machine?
My Microdermabrasion machine! There are two different types of machines; one the shoots out crystals or sand, two diamond tip. I have a diamond tip which is less painful on the sink. I just love how smooth my sink feels afterwards!

> Q. What the biggest common mistake you see people making with their skin?
Over picking there "pimples". We all do it. Picking too soon. Over attacking. That causes scaring which is harder to  get rid of than the actual pimple itself.

> Q. Quick tip? (for beautiful skin)
Always, always wash your face before bed! Men & women. Through out the day, we get dirt & pollution (make up for women) on our faces & that goes right to our pillow case when we go to sleep. Being on our pillows, the dirt just pushes into our sink. Our skin can't breath & will become looking haggard & old. So even if it's just a facial cleanser wipe, go to bed with a clean face!

> Now for some fun questions:

> Q. Whats your favorite holiday?
I honestly like Christmas & not just because I get gifts (that is always nice) but I love giving gifts to everyone! The husband is trying to help me cut back ;)

> Q. If you could travel anywhere in the world all expenses paid where would you go?
I would love to go backpacking across Europe! I hope that counts, when will I be getting that money ;)

> Q. Favorite thing do to hobby etc when your not at the Salon?
Well I kind of do this at the salon while I'm waiting for the phone to ring, I crochet! Yup, I'm 24 & I'm already acting like a grandma lol I guess that's alright though as long as I enjoy it, right?!

> Q. Favorite food or dish?
Since being married, I have tried lots of new dishes; but I love baked goods! My new favorite is banana chocolate chip cookies!

> Q. Favorite movie or book?
I am a sucker for chick-flicks; Moulin Rough is my favorite movie!

Planning on getting something permanent done this Summer??

Come in to get that area waxed!
Shaving your hair right before getting a tattoo will irritate the skin and might cause painful ingrown hairs. Waxing the area at least two days before you get your ink done will give the tattoo artist a clean, smooth surface to work with. There also wont be a stubbly feeling when the hair starts to grow back in.

Call in to make your appointment when you know you're tattoo appointment!

Deep Conditioning

Winter time can put a toll on your hair. The dry, cold air just sucks the moisture right out of your hair & makes it look/feel dry, frizzy & brintle. Using styling tools as well as wearing hats & scarfs don't help either. The best way to replenish lost moisture is to do a weekly deep conditioning treatment!

Each strand of hair has 3 layers; deep conditioning affects the outer layer called the cuticle. The cuticle resembles shingles on a roof, overlaping each other & laying down flat. When hair becomes dry & damaged, the shingles will stand up. That gives the hair a dull, frizzy look.

Deep conditioning the proper way & using the right products will help smooth out the cuticle, making the shingles lay down. This gives your hair a smoother, shinier, healthier appearance!

Note: deep conditions cannot heal damaged hair or improve the quality of new hair; it is not a cure. It can minimize any damage done, restore shine, add strength to hair until the damages hair grows long enough to be cut off, & even makes hair manageable. The only TRUE way to cure damaged hair it to cut it off.

Happy Valentine's Day

It's the weekend of love & chocolate! Hope you all have fun plans for the day! Now don't be too upset about all of the chocolate you'll be eating; chocolate isn't bad for us. New research has been shown that chocolate can be part of a healthy diet!

Myth: Chocolate is high in caffeine.
Fact:
Eating chocolate may perk you up, it actually is not very high in caffeine. A 1.4 ounce chocolate bar or 8 ounce glass of chocolate milk both contain 6 mg of caffeine. That's the same amount as a cup of decaffeinated coffee.

Myth: Chocolate is bad for your cholesterol.
Fact: Research has shown that stearic acid, the main saturated fat found in milk chocolate, doesn't raise ol levels the same way that other types of saturated fats do. In fact, eating a 1.4 ounce chocolate bar instead of a carbohyfrated-rich snack can increase HDL (good) cholesterol.

Myth: Chocolate lacks any mutritional value.
Fact: Chocolate is a good source of magnesium, copper, iron, & zinc. It also contains antioxidants that are found in tea & red wine that decrease risk of coronary disease. A daily serving of dark chocolate helps lower blood pressure & improve insulin resistance according to a joint study between Tufts Unicersity in Boston & the Unicersity of L'Aquila in Italy.

Myth: Chocolate cause cavities.
Fact: Candy alone is not responsible for cavities. They are formed when bacteria in the mouth metabolize sugars & starches from any type of food.

Myth: Chocolate causes acme.
Fact: Eating chocolate all day everyday for months will definitely give you acne. Eating unhealthy, greasy foods on a regular bacis will give you acne. Chocolate every now & than will not give you acne.

Chocolate's bad reputation is slowly changing & research now shows that chocolate can be a part of an overall healthy lifestyle; when in moderation!

A. I knew in High School this is what I wanted to do. It has been a passion of mine since I was really little. I found a story I wrote in 4th grade, What do you want to be when you grow up?, Well even back then I wanted to be a stylist. At first I thought I would really enjoy doing Makeup but soon realized that I was only good at 80's makeup and my own. I found I loved cutting and coloring hair so this is what I have excelled on.

Q. How long have you been doing hair?
A. 25 years but if you count school then 26 years. I still love it!

Q. What are your top 3 favorite hair products you use on your clients?
A. Moroccan oil, Miracle hold/Grip by Osis and a paste. Where it be a creamy pomade from Enjoy or their texture paste to a wax. It helps me detail the style.

Question & Answers

Q: What Is Microdermabrasion?

A: Microdermabrasion is an effective, non-surgical way to get rid of
acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles & sunspots by exfoliating the top layers of the skin. No chemicals or laser beams are used, only a dimond tip that gently srubs your skin, leaving it smooth, fresh, and soft like a baby! Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen production, helping your skin rejuvenate faster than normal. Microdermabrasion takes up to one hour and has no downtime! Your skin will GLOW!!!

Q: What Does Microdermabrasion Involve?

A: Your skin is first cleansed twice, with products especially for YOUR skin type! The Esthetician then starts the microdermabrasion procedure using a hand-held device. The device works by gently exfoliating with the dimond tipped wand against the skin, the wand vacuums back dead skin cells all at the same time.
The esthetician slowly moves the wand across your entire face and not just on treated areas. After microdermabrasion, your skin is soothed with a special mask, moisturizer and nourishing spf, allowing you to go back to your daily routine immediately after treatment.

Q: Is Microdermabrasion For Me?

A: If your skin care goal is to get rid of acne scars, blotchy skin, the appearance of large pores, age or sun spots, fine lines & wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture, you are a perfect candidate for microdermabrasion. All skin types and colors can be treated with microdermabrasion. But before you go ahead, talk to your esthetician about your medical history because there are conditions which may make microdermabrasion unsuitable for you.

Q: Are There Any Microdermabrasion Contraindications?

A: Microderm abrasion is not recommended to keratosis sufferers, people with undiagnosed lesions, active rosacea or acne, weeping acne (stages 3 to 4), diabetes, auto-immune disorders, fragile capillaries, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis or lupus. Recent laser surgery or Accutane acne treatment may also be sound reasons for your esthetician not to recommend microdermabrasion. Discuss your medical history to your esthetician if unsure.

Q: Will I Experience Any Discomfort During Treatment Does It Hurt?

A: Micro abrasion treatment is painless. It feels like the mild facial massage from a special wand. Your face may appear a little pinkish in the first 24 hours, but you should not experience any itchiness or pain.
