January Q&A Suzanne
Q. What inspired you to be a stylist?
A. I knew in High School this is what I wanted to do. It has been a passion of mine since I was really little. I found a story I wrote in 4th grade, What do you want to be when you grow up?, Well even back then I wanted to be a stylist. At first I thought I would really enjoy doing Makeup but soon realized that I was only good at 80's makeup and my own. I found I loved cutting and coloring hair so this is what I have excelled on.
Q. How long have you been doing hair?
A. 25 years but if you count school then 26 years. I still love it!
Q. What are your top 3 favorite hair products you use on your clients?
A. Moroccan oil, Miracle hold/Grip by Osis and a paste. Where it be a creamy pomade from Enjoy or their texture paste to a wax. It helps me detail the style.
Q. What is your favorite thing about being a stylist?
A. My clients! I have some of the most awesome clients... they are not just my clients but friends. I enjoy spending time with them and helping them with their hair. They push me to be better as a stylist and a person.
Q. Favorite Styling tool?
A. Boar bristle round brush. I can create a straight style to a curly one depending on how I use it. It helps smooth out the hair too.
Q. Do you have a current fav hair trend?
A. Bangs! It's an easy change to any style and there are so many different kinds of fringes you can do.
Q. Share a quick tip with us!
A. Using good Shampoo and Condition. It makes a big difference in how your hair styles and keeping color from fading. Not everyone can use the same brand so it might take a few tries. Make sure your Shampoo is Sulfate Free.
Now for some fun questions
Q. Whats your favorite holiday?
A. This is hard... I love Christmas but I really like Thanksgiving. Getting together cooking, playing games and just being Thankful for all we have.
Q. If you could travel anywhere in the world all expenses paid where would you go?
A. It's a toss up of New Zealand and Ireland. But only if I could take my husband with me. Otherwise it would be over to visit him. :)
Q. Favorite thing do to hobby etc when your not at the Salon?
A. I love to bake and I have really gotten into sewing rag quilts. I never thought I would be sewing. Never could finish anything in school, but now I can't wait to get them done so I can see how cute they turned out.
Q. Favorite food or dish?
A. Chicken Coconut Korma with garlic naan.
Q. Favorite movie or book?
A. Movie would be "When Harry Met Sally' book would be: A Thousand Splendid Suns

Question & Answers
Q: What Is Microdermabrasion?
A: Microdermabrasion is an effective, non-surgical way to get rid of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles & sunspots by exfoliating the top layers of the skin. No chemicals or laser beams are used, only a dimond tip that gently srubs your skin, leaving it smooth, fresh, and soft like a baby! Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen production, helping your skin rejuvenate faster than normal. Microdermabrasion takes up to one hour and has no downtime! Your skin will GLOW!!!
Q: What Does Microdermabrasion Involve?
A: Your skin is first cleansed twice, with products especially for YOUR skin type! The Esthetician then starts the microdermabrasion procedure using a hand-held device. The device works by gently exfoliating with the dimond tipped wand against the skin, the wand vacuums back dead skin cells all at the same time.
The esthetician slowly moves the wand across your entire face and not just on treated areas. After microdermabrasion, your skin is soothed with a special mask, moisturizer and nourishing spf, allowing you to go back to your daily routine immediately after treatment.
Q: Is Microdermabrasion For Me?
A: If your skin care goal is to get rid of acne scars, blotchy skin, the appearance of large pores, age or sun spots, fine lines & wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture, you are a perfect candidate for microdermabrasion. All skin types and colors can be treated with microdermabrasion. But before you go ahead, talk to your esthetician about your medical history because there are conditions which may make microdermabrasion unsuitable for you.
Q: Are There Any Microdermabrasion Contraindications?
A: Microderm abrasion is not recommended to keratosis sufferers, people with undiagnosed lesions, active rosacea or acne, weeping acne (stages 3 to 4), diabetes, auto-immune disorders, fragile capillaries, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis or lupus. Recent laser surgery or Accutane acne treatment may also be sound reasons for your esthetician not to recommend microdermabrasion. Discuss your medical history to your esthetician if unsure.
Q: Will I Experience Any Discomfort During Treatment Does It Hurt?
A: Micro abrasion treatment is painless. It feels like the mild facial massage from a special wand. Your face may appear a little pinkish in the first 24 hours, but you should not experience any itchiness or pain.

Ombre Hair Color
In other words, color melting. This is such a big trend this season! So many celebrates are pulling off this look.
Dark root, light ends! The key is to color the root just a shade darker than your natural color & blend it in with the blond. It's low maintenance because you don't have to worry about coming back in for re-touching your new growth for a while. Especially nice if you want a pretty color but don't want to pay for highlights every month or so to keep them up. Also, no worry about the grow-out line. You can do it as gradual or as bold as you would like! Using about 2-3 colors, but you can do more if your hair is longer and you want to go lighter more gradually. So what do you think? Let us know if you like this "ombre" trend or think that everyone has gone crazy!

Henna Tattoos!
By appointment only, we will be offering Henna Tattoos on Friday!
Call the salon to book your appointment!
801-379-0540
What is a Henna Tattoo? Wikipedia says "Henna tattoos, also known as Mehndi, is another form of temporary tattoo. Coming from a south Asian tradition, henna uses a paste made from the powdered leaves of the Henna plant, Lawsonia inermis. Its active dye, Lawsone, binds with the keratin in skin, fingernails, and hair. Traditional henna is drawn in delicate patterns on the hands and feet, but modern henna is applied in all sorts of designs anywhere on the body. Unlike other forms of temporary tattoos, henna does not allow for a full range of colors but only shades of reds, browns, and near-blacks. The paste is applied and left on the skin for several hours to stain. The stain will gradually fade away as the skin sheds. Henna tattoos can last days to over a month depending on application and aftercare.
However, caution should be taken as many products labeled henna are misleading. Fast-staining "black henna" can contain para-phenylenediamine (PPD) which can cause allergic reactions and scarring."

Skincare for Men
Image Skincare posted an article about what men's skincare routine should be. Don't worry guys, it's nothing too girly, just the basics!
Does your man’s skincare regimen measure up to his professional need to look his best? Let’s face it, in this economy every little detail matters whether your guy is looking for new opportunities or solidifying his job security. His personal appearance plays an important role in how others perceive his energy, credibility, and trustworthiness.
My husband only uses shampoo for his face (a big no no!) One day he will have a normal regimen! Just one day at a time ;)

Basic Skincare for Men
Does your man’s skincare regimen measure up to his professional need to look his best? Let’s face it, in this economy every little detail matters whether your guy is looking for new opportunities or solidifying his job security. His personal appearance plays an important role in how others perceive his energy, credibility, and trustworthiness. In order to maintain their edge, guys of all ages are interested in taking care of themselves and indulging in image enhancing products, gadgets and treatments – even if they pretend not to! But since they are still men, they are impatient and less likely to grasp the concept of maintenance routines. In fact they generally prefer to get it over with in one shot.
If the image he presents at work is important to your guy, then getting it over with in one shot isn’t going to do. Let’s look at some options for the basics.
Although men have thicker skin (didn’t we all know that ladies!)- approximately 0.5mm thicker than women’s, it is also oilier, with larger exposed pores, and more of a tendency to break out in a sweat. Therefore, using deodorant soaps directly on the face is a practice men should avoid, as this might irritate their skin and leave a residue. Men should try a cleanser that will leave their skin feeling fresh and clean.
Skin that gets shaved on a regular basis has a whole host of other problems – like red bumps, ingrown hairs and dry patches. For these instances, men should remember that razor burn or cuts can be reduced by using a good cleanser, a good quality scrub every couple of days and a softening shave cream with a sharp razor, followed by a soothing moisturizer. Of course changing the blades regularly is also vital.
The problem of excessive oil and shine can be addressed by using products like the Clear Cell Salicylic Clarifying Tonic. The advice of beauty editors is for men to use a weekly treatment product containing salicylic acid. Keep in mind that, if they are willing to go just one step further, adding atonic can reduce pore size, control oil slicks, and help avoid nasty ingrown hairs. Guys do need to be mindful of not using a product that’s too harsh, as it will strip away essential oils when the skin is most vulnerable.
While the same basics of skincare apply to both men and women, without a doubt men are definitely taking more notice of what’s looking back at them in the mirror these days.
How does your man’s skincare routine measure up?
Could he use some more encouragement or does he surprise you with the amount of effort he makes taking care of his appearance on a regular basis?
My husband only uses shampoo for his face (a big no no!) One day he will have a normal regimen! Just one day at a time ;)
